Volunteering

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Ealing in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
  • by joining the Board of Trustees
  • by helping with fundraising

Home Visiting Volunteers

Home-Start Ealing’s home-visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. All volunteers attend a preparation course before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers offer their time and friendship and accept a parent as they are.

“I have been a Home-Start volunteer for the past year and it has had such a positive impact on the family I visit weekly and also for me personally. It is incredible how much of a difference just a couple of hours chatting with Mum or playing with a toddler can make. It’s hugely rewarding and a great privilege.”

Christine

“In retirement I feared that meaning would be lost from my life. Volunteering for Home-Start Ealing gives my life meaning. “

Sarah

“I have always felt that the help I have given has always been whole-heartedly appreciated.  When I have worked with families whose own extended family do not live nearby or are not around, I have always felt that my help has helped to combat loneliness and given that extra help that may have been given by a family member, if they were around.”

Board of Trustees

The Home-Start Ealing’s Board of Trustees is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as law, social care, HR, fundraising, education and business. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the family support work we undertake and a willingness to be involved and active in the running of the charity. The board ensures correct governance and is responsible for the financial security of the organisation.

“I am delighted to be involved with the Board of Trustees of this very worthwhile organisation. We strive to ensure sound management practice and governance to comply with Home-Start UK standards, but more importantly, to provide the best quality service to families and to make a difference to parents and children. The Board of Trustees is a dynamic group of people who are passionate about this charity’s work.”
